" John Wick Chapter 4 " officially opened with a bow at its London premiere on Monday night with the online reactions embargo lifted at the time of the premiere.

The fourth installment picks up following the end of "John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum," which saw Keanu Reeves' famous assassin fall from on top of the Continental Hotel after being betrayed by his ally Winston (Ian McShane). Naturally, Wick lives. "Chapter 4" uncovers the infamous pariah traveling the globe in search of freedom from the rule of the elusive high-powered, ruthless High Table.

The critically-acclaimed action film has drawn strong praise in its first round of reactions and has been praised for its impressive list of partners in the fight that comprises Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Marko Zazor, Scott Adkins and Rina Sawayama. Another major issue of discussion is the length of the film of an extended two hours and 49 minutes -38 minutes longer than the previous entry's.

Los Angeles Times critic Katie Walsh liked the film and praised its cinematic style as superior to other blockbusters from franchises. However, she added about one element she hated: "Because it's dumb."

Collider Editor-in-Chief Steven Weintraub had nothing but praise for the film, signaling that Reeves is up to some mischief using a dragon's breath shotgun.

CinemaBlend Critic Eric Eisenberg expressed some reservations about the film's daunting time-span. However, he says that it "earns it" by using "smart pace" and some strong sets.

John Wick: Chapter 4 director and franchise creator Chad Stahelski explains why he would like to take a break from the franchise before starting work on the next chapter. Stahelski started his professional career working in Hollywood as a stuntman prior to teaming up with star Keanu Reeves for 2013's John Wick. Stahelski was co-directing the film alongside David Leitch, before solely in charge of the subsequent three sequels. John Wick was a surprise critical and financial success.

Interview with the film company /Film, Stahelski speaks about what the future holds for the action film franchise ahead of John Wick: Chapter 4's theatrical release. He says he thinks he should take a break from the franchise prior to continuing Wick's story. At the same time director Stahelski has said that he may not direct John Wick 5 as a John Wick 5 film, declaring, "I'm always saying, 'This is my last one and this won't be repeated.' And I'll say that now"This is my last one." As for why he feels it's necessary to take a break, Stahelski says:

While Stahelski hopes to step away from John Wick's tense journey through the criminal underground The franchise is set to grow with the Ana de Armas-led spin-off Ballerina. It is set between John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum as well as John Wick: Chapter 4, Ballerina explores the story of de Armas' Rooney, who begins her own journey to seek revenge against the murderers of her family. As de Armas is taking over the role previously played by Unity Phelan, Reeves, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, and Anjelica Huston are all set to take on roles they played in previous episodes of the franchise.

Following his work on John Wick: Chapter 4 and the other chapters in the franchise, Stahelski is set to use his director's skills to new realms that go outside of the thrilling gunplay of Reeves the master assassin. The year 2021 is when Stahelski was tapped by the company to create a film adaptation of Ghosts of Tsushima which is the cult 2020 PlayStation game in which Samurai fights for the island of Tsushima during the initial Mongol invasion of Japan. The director is also expected to develop a reboot in the Highlander franchise, with Stahelski stating that he envisioned his take on the battle between immortals being an entire trilogy of films.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is among 2023's most highly anticipated releases. As such, while there is a possibility of disappointment with a potential break between films, it's obvious that the reasons given by Stahelski can be helpful for future films. Furthermore, with the director's future projects trading swords with guns, the lessons that Stahelski learns from Ghosts of Tsushima and Highlander could lead to more riveting fights in future films.
