Popular blocky sandbox game Minecraft is closing in on 54 million copies sold across all platforms, according to Mojang's Patrick Geuder, who also tweeted that the console (Xbox 360 and PS3) versions of the game have now exceeded sales of the PC and Mac versions. The game will arrive on Xbox One, PS4 and Vita in August, the latter being Cross-Buy compatible, free for those with the PS3 version. Xbox 360 and PS4 owners who have the game installed on their Xbox 360 or PS3 will now be able download the most recent versions for $5.

The first time players experienced Minecraft began in May 2009, when the alpha version of Minecraft was made available, over two years before its official release in November. Mojang and creator Markus "Notch" Persson have celebrated numerous sales milestones since then, with the most recent noting that 15 million copies of the PC version were sold as of April. The Xbox 360 version sold 12 million copies, while the Pocket Edition for iOS or Android reached 21 million. best minecraft servers [Image: Mojang]
