The block-building game that is hugely popular Minecraft could soon be made into a film.

Minecraft creator Markus Persson revealed this week that the game's creator was in talks with Warner Brothers about the project.

Mr Persson stated that he divulged the news to thwart someone else who was trying to leaked details about the deal.

Movie news site Deadline revealed that one of the producers of the recent Lego Movie is handling the project.

Warner was planning to transform into a "live action" version of the game into a film, said Deadline.

Work on the film is at a very beginning stage, as Warner has only recently acquired the rights to use Minecraft's iconic blocks, characters and monsters. Raunge

The announcement comes less than two weeks after Minecraft creator Mojang decided to stop a Kickstarter project that sought to raise money for a film based on the game.

Film adaptations of best-selling games have a long and rocky history in Hollywood and a lot of projects never make it past the planning stage.

For instance, a film set in the science-fictional Halo universe has been in development for the past nine years, but filming has yet to begin despite multiple scripts being written.

Similar films based on Bioshock or Gears of War have been discussed but there is no film that has begun shooting.

World of Warcraft is a game that is being made into a film. Filming began in January with Duncan Jones, a British director. The film is scheduled to be released in the beginning of 2016.
