Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss' coach, questioned why Alabama quarterback Bryce Young didn't enter the NCAA transfer portal to leverage it for higher Heisman Trophy winner's NIL earnings.

Kiffin stated that Bryce Young did not enter the portal during a Sports Illustrated interview, which was published Wednesday. "If you are giving advice to Bryce Young, why don't he go into the portal and go into Nick Saban's offices and say, "Hey! I want to be there, but I need to protect my self so I'm going in the portal. And I want to come back as long as it's matched with what I get out there.'

"The kid would make ten times what he would have earned. How is that possible? It should. It will.

Young is the projected No. ESPN projects Young as the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. This assumes that he will be graduating from college after his junior season.

Less than three weeks into the NCAA's rule change about NIL last July, Alabama coach Nick Saban said Young had already amassed close to $1 million in NIL deals. nici's blog It is unknown how much Young has made since last Summer, but Saban claimed at a World Games event last Wednesday that 25 players from Alabama earned NIL deals totaling $3,000,000 last season.

The Athletic reported that a five star 2023 recruit was being paid $8 million by the school's NIL collective. Some believe that Nico Iamaleava, a Tennessee signing, is that player.

Kiffin suggested that Young should be admitted to the transfer portal. However, none of Alabama’s top-performing players have done so. While 18 of the Tide’s scholarship players have been accepted into the portal since last year, none of them will be full-time starters in 2020.

May 1 was the deadline for fall athletes to have completed the transfer portal to be eligible to play immediately next year.
