Crossplay is available for Minecraft users on any console. However it has some limitations. Console users can only connect to Minecraft realms, sponsored servers, and games created for them by their friends. It is possible to bypass these restrictions and connect to any server with a little extra effort. Server owners can also set up Java servers to allow anyone to connect, regardless of their version or console. Here is our guide on how to connect to any server with any console, and how to set up your own server for crossplay.

Connecting via Xbox

Console players can have a difficult time connecting to a server hosted on their behalf. You will need trick your console to allow you to connect to the server. Close any games you are currently running on your console and open up your network settings.

From your network settings, enter the advanced settings window then click on the DNS settings option. In the next window, change the IPv4 DNS Settings from Automatic to Manual. This will open a screen that allows you to enter a new Primary DNS. Change the numbers on this screen to 104.238.130.180 and confirm the change. You will be taken on to another screen to configure Secondary DNS. Enter the numbers into the boxes and click confirm. You may need switch between the two Secondary DNS options at least once to establish a connection to the server.

Open Minecraft and restart your console. Head over to the Server list in Minecraft and click on any of the servers listed that have the message "Join to open Server List" below the name; it does not matter which one you choose. Instead of joining the server that you have chosen, you will be taken into a new screen with many options. Select the Connect to Server option at the top. This will take you to a screen where the IP address and port number of the server you wish to join can be entered. We recommend you enable the Add server list option to save time and allow you to join again later. Pubg qa

Nintendo Switch: Connecting

You will need to trick your Switch to connect to the server, just like with the Xbox version. Log out of your Microsoft account to open Minecraft. After you have logged out, open Minecraft and go to the Switch's connection settings. Click on the Change Settings option to select the WiFi network that you wish to connect to the server.

From the network settings screen, scroll down to the DNS Settings option and change it from Automatic to "Manual. You will now have two options in the settings menu. Change the Primary DNS setting from 104.238.130.180 to Secondary DNS 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8. You may need to switch between these two Secondary DNS numbers if you are having trouble connecting. Save these settings and start up Minecraft.

After Minecraft has been loaded on your Switch's screen, log back into Microsoft. Once you have logged in, you'll be able open Multiplayer and navigate to the Server List. You can click on any server that's available. It doesn’t matter which one.

Instead of connecting to the server that you have chosen, you will see a new menu with many options. Click on the top option saying Connect to a Server, and you will now be able to add the IP address and port number of the server you want to connect to. We recommend that you also enable the Add a server list option, so you don't need to enter this information each time you want to connect.

This process is known for being picky. You might need to change the Secondary DNS number. i do what the voices in my head tell me Log in to Microsoft and log out. Or, try clicking on other server options before you can connect.

Connecting via PlayStation

Sony has made it extremely difficult to connect non-sponsored Bedrock servers. To accomplish this, you will need to create a LAN game on another device (preferably a computer). Phantom must be downloaded and run on a computer connected to the same network as your PlayStation. After downloading Phantom to your computer, you will need to open a command window. You can do this by pressing Windows + X, which will open a context menu that includes the command prompt option, as well as by searching for it in your computer’s search bar.

Drag the Phantom software that you downloaded earlier to the command prompt window. Hit the enter key. This will launch the software. To autofill the prompt with your software's location, press the up arrow key or drag it into the command prompt. Instead of hitting enter and running this command, you'll need to add space and then type in the IP or port of the server to join. In order for this to work correctly, the IP and port must be connected with a colon in order for the software to work. The command should look something like this: "...\Desktop\phantom (1).exe" play.gamepur.com:25565

After you have set up Phantom on your PC, you can now connect to the server with your PlayStation. Just open Minecraft, scroll to the bottom of Minecraft's Friends tab, then click on Connect to Server. You will see a LAN Game called Remote Server. Click on the LAN Game button to join the server that you want to play.

Crossplay: Setting up your server

Paper

Installing plugins is necessary to allow anyone to join your servers, regardless of the version or console. You will need a server API capable of running these plugins in order to install them. We recommend using the latest version of Paper to run your server. Paper is a fork from Spigot, which is also a fork off Bukkit. It is designed to reduce server lag, increase performance and create a stable platform that can host large communities. It also runs all the plugins for other Bukkit forks. It can also easily be optimized to make your server as smooth as possible.

Installing Paper will depend on how you are hosting your server. If you are using a company like Apex or Shockbyte, their support staff will be able to help you and will have guides available for you to reference. You can also set it up on your own computer.

Geyser and Floodgate

Geyser and Floodgate will be essential for any server wanting to enable crossplay. These plugins allow players to connect to a Java server from Bedrock and use any plugins that you may have installed. Geyser allows players to connect to the server itself with little setup needed. Floodgate handles player authentication, allowing more people to join the server without having to set up any accounts with Microsoft or Mojang.

Setting up Geyser and Floodgate is fairly easy. Download the plugins via GeyserMC. Drag the.jar files to your server's plug-ins folder. Restart your server to generate the necessary configuration files. These files will need to have some minor changes in order for other players via Bedrock to be able to join the server. If you aren't comfortable with editing the config files yourself, Geyser provides an online editor for the configuration files to make it a little easier. Be sure to replace the old configuration files with the ones you are downloading.

After the server has been restored, go to your plugins folder. Find the newly created GeyserMC subfolder. Open it and edit Geyser’s configuration.yml file according to your server's specifications. We recommend that you change Remote port numbers and Bedrock port numbers so they match your server's port. By default, it is 25565. Change the remote port address to 127.0.0.1, and the authtype from floodgate

After making these changes, restart the server to apply the changes. Any console can now join your server.

ViaVersion/ViaBackwards/ViaRewind

ViaVersion is a very useful set of plugins that every server should have installed, especially if you want to enable crossplay. ViaVersion allows players on different versions of Minecraft to join the server. So if your server is running 1.16.4, players that are still running 1.13.2 for whatever reason can still join and play. This is useful if your server is older and you want players to be able connect.

ViaVersion can be installed easily. Simply download each plugin.jar, drop it into your server's plugins directory, and restart the server. The server will create new config files for plugins every time it starts up again. You can make any modifications you like.
